    AOL and Internet Explorer conflicting
Yesterday, I discovered that AOL 9.0 would not connect. I connect to the internet through dsl, but when I try to open AOL 9.0 it disconnects my internet connection as well. I have to unplug my modem and router before Internet Explorer recognizes a connection again. I spent about 9 hours trying to fix this problem--including 3 hours with AOL technical support. I have discovered that if I open AOL, then disconnect my modem and router, then sign on to AOL everything works fine--AOL and Internet Explorer. But I have to do this every time I want to use AOL.

In all honesty, if this has worked in the past and it is happening now, I would unistall AOL and reinstall so that you can get a new configuration file made up for AOL as opposed to trying to manually fix why AOL is doing this.

Of course after uninstalling AOL and all it's friends, there will still be AOL hanging around in locations.

I would go to add/remove programs and remove all AOL components and then go to your c:\program files folder and delete any AOL directories

Download, install and run ccleaner, it is a freeware registry cleaner/optimizer and let it do it's thing

    Ccleaner
    Download CCleaner 2.09.600 - FileHippo.com
On the right hand side, click download latest version

Once all there, download AOL and install and watch where everything is installed to so you have an idea where it's being installed and when youget to already have an account follow the screen instructions and be sure to set it as ASDL, DSL or Broadband connection

    Welcome To America Online!

Post back, Hope all works out

This solution did not work for me. I appreciate the help, though. Thank you.
