I just installed porcelain tile in my bath, what can I do to make it shiner wihout making it to slick,I have a toddler running around.

You just installed it and you already think you made the wrong choice? :eek:

You can't do anything to it unless it's an unglazed tile. It could be, but unlikely. If it was unglazed, an acrylic finish will give it some gloss, but it'll also mean more maintenance.

Yep, you'd need to tell us more about the tile or at least show us a sample. Rule of thumb, the shinier the floor the slicker it is. A floor appears shiney by the way it reflects light, more reflection means its slick.

ZEP makes a product that I put on my porcelain tiles on my bathroom floor. It's a high traffic floor finish that takes 30 minutes to dry. It's step #3 in the ZEP products found at Home Depot in the cleaning section. I have it on all my floors and it's not slippery.

Patty,

If a sealer worked on your bathroom floor, I will bet it is because you have older unglazed mosaic tiles.

Pattie just installed her tiles. I will bet hers are not unglazed since she indicated she would like them to be shinier. To me that means they already have a glaze.

If it's the same Pattyg that I remember she just finished that bathroom a two months ago here at AMHD. That pattyg used glazed tiles.

The tile is porcelain from Lowe's,it didn't say if it was glazed ,but has some shine to it.also is two coats of grout sealer enough. This is a first time tile job.

You put sealer on the tiles? Which one and why?

I only put the sealer on the grout in between the tile, not on the tile.

I am redoing my bath and putting down some cement boards for porcelain tile do I need to tape the cement boards first

Yes, with fiber glass tape and also butter them with the same mud you use under the cement board as you screw the boards down. Cementboard, Wonderboard, Hardiebacker and Ditra would all do the job. Next time just start your own post by clicking on ASK at the top of your screen.
