Leather can't be painted 'permanently' , the paint won't adhere to the leather surface. You can dye leather successfully because the dye soaks into the leather and is permanent. If you are thinking of dying a leather couch or chair, that is a huge undertaking and you may not get the results you desire, uneven colour, not enough colour in some places, etc. If the furniture is really worth it, then I would send it out to be done, but will be expensive.
