How do I install a chair rail next to a window with no frame?
I would like to install a chair rail in my office. The placement of the window in the room is exactly 36 inches from the floor. A chair rail should be placed 32 to 36 inches from the floor. Also, the window has no frame, only a sill and a decorative trim under the sill. Where do I place the chair rail? Should I butt it up against the sill or go above the sill which would put it above 36 inches from the floor? If you do install it above the sill, where do you stop the chair rail? Do you stop at the edge of the window, or do you wrap the chair rail into the window? What about removing the decorative piece under the sill and run the chair rail right under the sill? Please help!

You put it at what ever height you want. Personally I don't think it would look right running immediately under the sill. If you have casing around the window, which I don't think you have, but it up agonist the casing. If no casing hold it back from 2 to 6" from edge of window. What ever looks best. End it by cutting the end at 45 just like you were going around corner. Then cut short piece at 45, the length of which is the thickness of the molding. Glue to end and wall, carrying design of molding to the end. Don't think turning molding into the window would look right unless your wall thickness is a foot or more.
