I was referred to "risk management", what's the chance I will be hired?
I interviewed with a county social service agency, was told by the hiring department that I "interviewed exceptionally well" and my references were checked immediately. I was then told that the background check would take place. I was informed that the decision as to whether they could offer me the job will lie with "risk management" because of the length of time that I have had a driver's license. This position does involve driving clients and children at times. The job posting states that applicants must have a "valid driver's license", Which I have. I had a license for nearly 4 years in college, then moved to NYC, where the license expired. I only renewed it last August because I was planning to leave NYC and would again need to drive on a regular basis. So in actuality I have nearly 5 years of a clean driving record, it's just that there has been a large gap of time (15 years) where I was not licensed. What do you think my chances are of being hired? I would love this job very much, but I'm feeling very worried. I'm also upset because I flew down from out of state for the interview, they checked my current employer's reference, and after all of that I'm being told that I may not be eligible :( I would not have wasted my time or money (or theirs) if I did not qualify for the position... again the posting stated that a valid driver's license is required, which I do have. My driving record is clean as well. Thanks for any information!

Are you asking if you have recourse due to the wording of the application concerning the license?

Unfortunately for insurance rating purposes you do not have X years of a clean driving record. You have 1 year - the past is too long ago to be considered. It is undoubtedly a question of your prospective employer being self insured and having to rate the risks.

    I don't have a guess what they'll do.
