Gas fireplace - is it bad to move the logs?
I was trying to determine if my ventless gas fireplace logs were causing the bad odor or the fireplace itself, so I decided to remove the logs, run the fire for 45 minutes, and see if the smell still occurred. It did, so now I know I need to buy newer/better logs. But as I was researching logs, I stumbled upon someone saying that moving ventless logs from the fireplace is very bad. Can anyone confirm this and if so, explain why please? Thanks!

Moving them isn't bad, getting then back in the wrong place is. Make sure to refer to the info plate for proper location. Logs must be set so the gas flame doesn't impinge on the logs

Thank you very much! I haven't put the logs back in yet but will definitely find instructions before doing so now.

Since the fireplace didn't smell at all without the logs, I am now in search of new replacement logs so if anyone has recommendations of which kinds/brands to get I'd be extremely grateful - the odor of the old ones were just AWFUL and would like to make sure it isn't an issue again. I've had ventless fireplaces before in previous homes and never had one smell so bad.

    Thanks again. =)

I have an Oak Mountain set, 24" Propane, about 10 yrs old, no smell. They do have notches where they set in the grate and flat spots where the cross logs sit. The flame passes up through the open spaces. Good luck, Brian
