    Static sound through TV
I have a 12 yr old RCA TV/VHS combo unit. I have a cable box and a DVD player connected to it. When I watch TV through the cable box or play a VHS tape I have no problem hearing through the internal speakers ( I have no external speakers hooked up). When I turn on the DVD player and switch the tuner to input I get static noise in the speakers. The noise grows as I try to raise the volume. I really don't want to have to replace the TV but its frustrating to not be able to watch DVDs without static or background noise.

    THanks for any help.

Verify Output of DVD is going to correct Audio Input.

The TV has only one audio input jack and one video input. I am actually using a y connector to connect the left and right speaker wires from the DVD player to one input point. Could it be that the audio cable is going bad?

Try a single audio cable, for a test.
