iPod only plays sound in one ear
My iPod only plays sound out of the right channel. This is NOT a headphone problem. I'm 100% positive it's a problem with the headphone jack. I've used multiple sets of headphones (that all work on my computer or blackberry) but when I plug them into the iPod I get sound only in the right ear. When I push down very gently on the cord the left side kicks in as well, which leads me to believe that it's a headphone jack problem. What can I do to compensate for this/fix this (other than just getting a new one or taking it to the genius bar and let the genii work on it)?

Note: Another user on here (KingsX to be precise) advised a different user to use a mono-to-stereo adapter if the sound only played out of the left ear. I'm interested in pursuing that course of action, but sound only plays out of the right ear for me, not the left. What adapter stuff would I need?

Just Google mono to stereo adapter. I did and I found many different sites to buy these on. Amazon sells them for approx $6 each. Well worth the price as Ipods are not user friendly to fix and the cost of a new one is out of this world. I use a Sony Walkman NWZ 545 and have had no problems with both of them that I own.

Just take it to a repair shop and have the earphone jack resoldiered to the board that will fix your problem I had the same problem before with a walkman tape player. It's just luck of the draw you ended up with bad workmanship. Guess the robot was having a bad day..
