Depends on the devices and the TV. If the TV has multiple inputs then I would connect the DVD into one input, the Sat receiver into the VCR and the
    VCR into another input.

I have a directtv receiver, proscan TV, emmerson vcr & coby dvd player. I got it figured out though. I hooked up the satellite out cord to the in on the vcr, then the out on the vcr to the TV & the colored cables for the dvd to the vcr! I checked it all out & it works great! Thanks for the help though. I also remembered to write it all down for when I get a new TV eventually!

That is one way, but it may not get you the best picture. Again it depends on the TV. If there is only one input then what you did is fine. But if there are multiple inputs, I would connect the DVD player directly to the TV.

You do need to run the Sat receiver into the VCR is you want to tape off the Sat. From there you go into the TV.
