Colors Do Not Line Up on Philips Projection TV
Colors Do Not Line Up on Philips Projection TV

The big screen TV we inhereted works and turns on and you can watch movies on it, but the colors are off. The colors look like they don't line up with each other like the yellow and the blue and it creates a shadowing affect of the image instead of all of the colors lining up to make one image at the correct coloring.

Do you know what we can check or do for the TV. Is it one part we can replace? Will it cost too much money to fix it. We have a TV and don't need this one but it would fit perfect in the home we are moving into.

    Can someone help with this

I've worked with some older three-gun projection TVs that had controls that allow the user to align the colors so you get a single image. I'm not sure if that's available for your machine (locate a user manual). If it's not available, it can be fairly tedious to realign a typical TV and I'm guessing it's similar with a projection TV. I'd guess that it'll cost about $50-$75 to do it (but that's a guess).

That sounds like a convergence problem, specifically the blue CRT is off. It's been a while since I was inside one of those, but I seem to recall that somewhere in there (perhaps in the front, below the screen, if you can pull off the panel covering the speakers) there is a convergence board full of adjustments... and I DO mean full! You should be able to set up a pattern of horizontal and vertical lines and then use the adjustments to get them to line up (converge); you should have all white lines, not separate red, green and/or blue lines. Those adjustments might--I emphasize might--be numbered in the order you're supposed to set them. I also seem to recall, however, that those convergence boards in some of the Philips PTVs were prone to problems of their own so that they wouldn't adjust properly. And I seem to recall that bad solder joints were a major part of those problems; so if you do find the convergence board, it might be a good idea to pull it and check the soldering on it... or have someone who knows electronics to look it over for you...
