The exact date of Christ's birth is not known. It could be late fall or early spring or winter for all we know. This question has been asked before on here and has been flogged by many. You can look through the archives and read everyone's thoughts on this.

It's also not known for certain what year Jesus was born. Could have been any time between 10 BC and 4 BC.

I was led to believe that it was more like fallish because of the position of the star, that the Wise Men were following. If you go by that theory it kills the December 25th date, which I believe was just invented as a convenience date.

First, christmas is a celebration of the birth of jesus, but not as in it being his birthday on that date. It's a date chosen to celebrate the incarnation- god become human.
The birth of Jesus was likely sometime in August, based on positioning of the stars as mentioned in the bible.
The date of Dec 25 was chosen for a number of reasons- in the winter season for the symbolism of winter months being dark and jesus being a light in the darkness.
Also, due to the prevalance of pagan religions during the beginnings of christianity- celebrating christian holidays at the same time as pagan feasts were celebrated was intended to make the transition from paganism to christianity easier and smoother.
Many christian symbols were taken from the pagan religion as well, such as the christmas tree and exchanging gifts-
    Hope that helps.

I don't beleve anyone believes Christ was even born in Dec, this is a celebration of his birth, not a "birth day" There is no exact date but most assume it was more spring because of the shepherds and the such.

The date was picked by the Bishop of Rome so that their members could have a celebration so they would not also stand out since Christinaity was a outlaw religion. It was not as much from my study to help them transition but it had to do with them being able to hide and celebrate their faith, they had to look like they were doing many of the things of the local people.
