    Breeding reluctant male birds
I an purchasing a pair of Mystache Parakeets and the male has so far not fertilized any eggs she has laid. He is approx. 5 yrs. She lays eggs, but they are never fertile. Is there anything I can do to cause him to be interested in breeding? He has no interest now. They are in an outside aviary, but will be in my living room when they arrive here. I have never bred birds and started only wanting a pet. Then I wanted 2 birds so he would have a friend when he is caged. He is tame even though not handled for a year or more while this breeder had him. She got him out and he went right to her and allowed petting and gave kisses. She sent pix of this. It's not a big deal if they never breed, but the challenge is there. LOL
I have bred dogs for many years and there are products to give if he is reluctant to breed. Is this true for birds as well?
Thanks for any info you can offer.
