What you need to determine is how much history is pure fact and how much is from the perspective of the observer ,either at the time that the history took place ,or the time it was observed by the historian. When perceptions are involved it is frequently filtered through the lens of bias.Later, more often then not as perceptions change ,history gets rewritten as observed through new filters .A phrase you will encounter as you study history deeper is "revisionism ". The question you have to ask yourself is which narrative is the most accurate.
