Can someone please explain how you find the max/min point for a formula? I need to be able to do it by hand.. not calculator.. so here's an example you can use: f(x)=(x-3)(x-8)

So, I have the equation y= -3(x-2)^2-13 I tried to find the x-intercepts so that I could graph the parabola, but I got this crazy answer: -2 plus or minus the square root of 39 over negative 3 ??
