I been sick since the end of September & haven't been going to school since. But I have been asking for the work & taking in doctor notes. The school hasn't gave me much work maybe like 2weeks of homework that's it. And they lost everything! Saying they don't have the work I did.. & saying I haven't been taking notes in. (I go in every week). Then I recently found out I have a disease linked to crohns disease.. & I'm also going to have troubles with my intestines for life term. Well the point being I'm a senior & because of this I'm not going to graduate :( a teacher even told me she's not going to correct an assignment I did (took it to her personally) this is exactly what she told me. "i dont have time to catch you up on everything just go to your seat" so I did then went back asking for my grade on the assignment she said "im not even going to bother in correcting it. your not going to get credit for my class anyways." is this wrong how im being treated?? or is it my fault? my mom is planning on getting a lawyer and suing them. Because this isn't the first time the school has done this to me or my siblings.

If you're so behind on the course work that you can't get credit for the courses then you won't be able to graduate this year. Since the end of September is what, the majority of the school year so far? I'm not sure how you could graduate missing half the year as your post implies.

What do you mean that the school lost everything? Did you personally give it to your teachers? If not, is there a policy or procedure that was supposed to be followed for getting the homework turned in?

Nope.its been like 2-3years since the school started saying we are missing some assignments and such or that they don't have record of any notes being sent in. but still they have 3 secretires & constantly 5-6 students "helping" but what I don't understand is how come all the "white rich kids" (not trying to be racist) always get to be out of class wondering in halls but still manage to have the highest grades possible.
Myself, a councelor and the principal had a meeting and they told me "aslong as you bring in excused notes and do your work at home there will be no problem in you graduating" so the principal said he would be respondsible 4 getting my work and I give it to him so he can give it to my teachers. He hasnt gotten me any work at all.. & still had the nerve to tell me I'm not going to graduate. I'm in there every week!! Asking for my work and the secretaries always say they don't know anything... come on!
My mum thinks this is not right & is planning to get a lawyer.. should she?

What are you suing them for? You still haven't made that clear. You mentioned white kids. Are you not white? Are you trying to make this into a discrimination case? If you've legitimately been sick and a doctor has been writing you notes all this time then even if the school messed up on their end and lost them going back and getting another note from the doctor shouldn't be a problem.

And if the principal has not been getting you your work what's stopping you from getting it from the teachers directly? You mentioned being in class the one time and you say you're on campus every week. You can't set up meetings with your teachers or email them?

It's totally up to your mother if she wants to hire a lawyer and sue them. So far though from what you've told us I have no idea what you are suing them for

I'd certainly step up and do something because it appears that you did what you could do in a circumstance involving a medical problem, therefore you should be treated the same as everyone else. Before using lawyers though, I'd try to work things out with the principal or the highest authority at the school. Have your parents work with the administration. If that doesn't work then hiring a lawyer would be the next best step.

Have another meeting with the principal, your counselor, and a parent present. Discuss the concerns about not receiving the work and what you have received apparently not reaching your teachers. You can contact your teachers directly to find out what you are missing and what you need. Bring in new notes from your doctor stating the reasons and dates for your absences. If you can, show when you have met in the past for previous discussions on how you will be able to obtain the credits you need to graduate on time. At this stage, it may involve additional work to catch up. You might also ask about any homebound program the district might have available. Many do just for these types of situations.

If you don't receive the help you need, mention the next step will be going to the school board administration with your documentation and see if they might be able to help.
