    Wiring a new Heil heat pump capacitor for the outdoor unit
    Which color wires normally go to the fan and hermetric connectors at the top of the capacitor? One is light blue and the other is brown. I already know the common wire.

    As wmproop said, brown is "usually" to the fan, and your purple or blue would normally be to the compressor (hermetric). Now, that being said, it is always best to just trace the wires just to make sure.

I live in central Virginia and am replacing my oil furnace with a heat pump. Is the east or west side of the house better for location of the outdoor unit. I thought west side for heating but not for cooling. Just the opposite for cooling. Please help!!
