Thermostat temp rising beyond setting

Hi. I noticed the other day that my thermostat was rising far beyond the settings for the heat would not kick off. So I replaced it and found that that new thermostat was doing the same. It's a gas furnace. I am wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem. I do not believe it's the thermostat because as I explained before I changed it and it didn't seem to help. There was no change in the problem. Thanks in advance.

Our furnace continues to run even though the thermostat reads 68 deg. It will shut off for a few minutes then will start back up 10 - 15 minutes later. I checked the thermostat and it still said 68 deg. Is this a thermostat issue or a furnace issue?
