    Strange Voltage Reading
My outside compressor and fan won't start. On the contractor relay, I get a reading of 120 volts on each leg going to the contractor but when I measure the voltage across the two 120 volt legs, I get 0 volts. It should read 240 volts.
Any ideas as to why I get 120 volts on each leg but together get 0 volts?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like you might be getting bleedover when checking one side at a time
The correct way is to check both sides at the same time
Sounds like you might have a blown fuse on one link or breaker that's half kicked, check fuses or turn off breaker and back on check again power with multimeter
