    Faulty Furnace
    Dear Sir/Madam:
Hello, I stared a furnace that has not run in over a year. Initially it fired up fine and ran for awhile. I shut it down and did not fire anymore. The blowers were working but the igniter did not glow. I tested for low and high voltage and realized the transformer had shorted out. I replaced the transformer and the igniter was glowing, ignited the pilot light but no gas (natural gas) was delivered by the gas valve . My question is, can the gas valve open for the pilot and not for the burners. The gas valve is a Honeywell SV9501.

Like I indicated before everything works except the gas flow to the burners.

Yes, you can definitely have a pilot but no burner condition.

Yes there are 2 solenoids in a your specific gas valve it sounds like, a pilot solenoid and a main solenoid. You should have 3 wires to the valve MV (main valve) PV (pilot valve) and PV/MV common. If after the pilot lights you get 24 volts between PV/MV and MV the valve is bad. If you never get the voltage to the valve during start up you have another problem, check safety devices in series with the MV.
