Old gas furnace banging NOT when first turned on
    Hi,
I've searched a bit and don't see the same situation posted about previously, if it has been I apologize.
I live in a 1970s mobile home, I have no idea how old the furnace is.
It's an electric ignition natural gas.

Recently, it has started banging a lot, periodically. It's not right at the beginning, it can take 30-60 minutes to start. It will go for a time and then stop for a bit and restart.

Our furnace has been loud for awhile which in my searches about the banging, I've learned may be the squirrel cage. (Had to Google what people were talking about) and it vibrates but this is new. When I first noticed it, I thought the boyfriend had shoes in the dryer because that's almost exactly what it sounds like.

I'm extremely paranoid about fire, having been in two as a kid, so I've turned it off for the night. I'm also broke, or I would just pay the darn money to have someone come look at it.

    Any ideas?
    Thank you in advance.

Let's start with the make and model numbers and go from there. Then let's pin down the banging noise, either coming from the furnace, or the duct work.

Troubleshooting a Furnace Duct: Banging Noises | DoItYourself.com

A visual inspection of the burners may be indicated, depending on what you come back with about where the banging occurs.

Often a service call fee is deducted or waived when work is done. That may be the safest bet.
