Old American standard furnace pilot lite going out!
Will a universal thermocoupler work on it?. The one on there now seems to be a connected by a braided metal covered wire and connected to a power bar of some type.. . then a wire runs off the power bar to the 5/16 fitting... seems as though a universal honeywell thermocoupler would run direct from the 5/16 fitting to the pilot lite!. will it work ? Was it rigged in some way before?

You need to use the old style thermocouple just like what you have.

Post a picture and I will see if I can locate one for you.

Anything is possible. I guess the pilot is large enough to activate the safety/thermocouple.
