Intermittent buzz from electric heat pump
Hi. I did a quick search for my problem and couldn't find any answers. I have a Bryant heat pump that is making an intermittent buzzing sound. It sounds like an alarm type of buzz, It sounds kind of like a "let someone into your apartment door buzzer". It only lasts for about a second, and happens about once a minute. This buzz is accompanied by a dimming of the lights in the house. I'm sure it's trying to tell me something. Is it something I can fix myself, or should I call in the pros?

    Thanks

Robert what your heat pump is trying to tell you is "Please replace my compressor contactor" The contactor is either worn OR a bug or two got between the contacts at some point when the compressor tried to start. Either way take care of this ASAP! It could get much more costly the longer you let that contactor operate. Eric

I have the same problem but more of a grinding buzz. They are about a minute apart in both heat and cool. I changed the contactor, but no luck. Any other sugestions?

Transformer buzz on heat pump [ 4 Answers ]

We just got a new heat pump/furnace/airconditioner installed (Trane) and you can hear the "buzz" of the transformer on the outside unit all of the time. Our old unit did this, but I always assumed it was because it was getting old and something was wrong. Is this normal? And why is the...

Electric Heat-Pump-No heat [ 2 Answers ]

I had a wall-mounted unit installed in a room in may of this summer. In the middle of the night the heat shut off and has not come back on since. It is an Amana, electric heat with heat pump unit. The cooling works, the heating setting does not blow air at all. When I remove the cover it says...

Heat pump vs electric heat [ 3 Answers ]

I have a heat pump with a two stage thermostat, 1st stage is heat pump, 2nd stage is electric (resistance) heat. Is it ever more economical to run the furnace with resistance heat only, not the heat pump? I know that the outdoor temperature affects the ability of the heat pump to work, but is...

Heat is intermittent [ 2 Answers ]

I have a York hvac system. AC works great. Heat is intermittent. I'll turn it to heat on thermostat and it may run for a while, but at some point (inconsistent as to how long), it turns from blowing warm air to blowing cold air. At times, I am able to turn everything off at the thermostat,...
