    Heat pumps
I have a co-op apartment in a high rise in NYC. It has old GE zoneline 3000 heat pumps. One of the two works fine, the other wotks OK but it is noisy. The fan is just loud. Should I bother to try to repair this or should I just replace them. If I replace them should I get heat pumps again or should I get standard resitance heating with standard AC units. I have been told the heat pumps don't do well when it gets really cold. Is there any reason to buy the Dry GE model, there seems to be a 2800 a 3800 and a 5800 series - is the cost difference worthwhile?

Thanks in adance for any response.

I didn't thing GE made equipment anymore. Anyway, the condenser fan could be as simple as the rain guard. Depending on BTU requirement of the dwelling, heat pumps can easily pay for themselves despite the inefficiency at very cold temps. 13-16 seer should be good, the better the seer, the better the efficiency at colder temps. There will soon be a new heat pump revolution, they will be much better in a few years. I would keep what I have and wait a few years if possible.
