    Heat pump will not engage
    Hello all,

My name is Scott I live in Alabama. About a year ago we had a new heat pump and air handler installed in our house every thing has been great until now when I tried to turn on the air I receive a bunch of different carracters on the digital screen of thermostat and the outside unit does not respond (it is a Payne) what could cause this? It has been working great until now. The air handler is responding to the thermostats commands being if I set the fan to run it comes on if I set the thermostat to cool, heat, or auto nothing?? Pleas help. Thank you in advance.

    Could be many things
Check to make sure the power is on to both the inside units and you have the correct voltage for both. Use a meter to test.
If the thermostat has batterys check or replace them.
You might ave been hit with a powersurge from your utility company.
Cycle the breakers all the way off then turn back on.

If none of this works call for service.

If the screen had a bunch of numbers and letters and then shows E2 you have a low voltage short. (sounds like at the reversing valve)

Heat pump stuck in heat mode [ 4 Answers ]

I have a heat pump that seems to be stuck in heat mode. When you try to turn the a/c on it runs heat. I got the a/c to run by cycling the power a couple of times but after having to use the heat again, it is stuck again. Could this be an electrical problem or is it probably the reversing valve?
