Heat pump outside fan running constantly
I have a 13 year old Trane XL 1200 heat pump (model WCY024F1) I live in Eastern NC and the outside air temp has cool to around 53F. I noticed that the outside Fan on the unit has been running constantly the past two days. The unit otherwise is working normally i.e. its putting out heat in heat mode and really cool in ac mode. The inside house portion of the system is working normally too. I do remember in the past that the outside fan did cycle on and off throughout the day when the heating/cooling needs were reached. Can anybody tell me what to check/replace and, am I headed for a component failure. PS there is no frost on the unit... esp not at 53F... :-) Thanks in advance ED.

Might be a bad contactor. The compressor outside shuts off like it is supposed to but the fan still runs with out the compressor?

Hey Josh, thanks for the info. You were correct, it turned out to be a bad contactor. I waited a day or with no response and not wanting to be without a/c so I called a repair man. I had the repairman give me the old contactor, and as he was showing me the portion that was bad (contactor stuck close with the spring compress) he wiggled the contactor and that freed it up. I will keep it in case my new contactor should become welded or something. Thanks again for your help Josh.
