Heat Pump Not Working (Chef Brand?) Is Very Old
Is there a replacement motor for a?? Chef heat pump? A technician told us the motor is gone, but unit is very old and company out of bus and no replacement parts. I only find (something) cef as a brand, no model/parts# /serial#. Do I need to replace the whole heat pump, or is there a replacement motor that may work? Thank you!

    Hi, ams854!

Greetings and WELCOME to the site! I just edited a little bit so that things could be a little more readable, and moved your question that you had posted in Introductions to this topic area so that it would get the most exposure to those who are best able to answer it. Additionally, your question is more likely to get noticed and answered to your satisfaction in this topic area. Introductions is for people to introduce themselves and we try to not ask questions there.

We would appreciate it if you would return to Introductions sometime to tell us a little about yourself though, if you would be willing to do that.

    Thanks!

If it is a old Magic Chef air conditioner parts should be available. At one time Magic Chef used off the shelf parts to build there units.Interesting note for you.

MAGIC CHEF: In 1986, Magic Chef was acquired by the Maytag Co. Air conditioning division was sold to Lennox in 1988 and renamed Armstrong Air. See Johnson.

Now with that said your motor is still available.

All you need is the information off the old motor (I hope the last serviceman did not take your motor because you will need the info to get a new one.)

    You need the
    Voltage
    RPM's
    Horse power
CW or CCW direction of rotation
    Frame size ETC.

All of this is on a label on the old motor and some of the info will be on the model tag on the equipment.

All outdoor condenser fan motors are available but sometimes the service people would rather sell you a new unit. You might consider a new unit if your system is real old because you might spend the $$ on a new motor and capacitor for the new motor and find out something else is broken a month later.

The choice is yours. Replace motor or replace unit.
