I have a Goodman gas furnice and it seems to be running constantly day and but will shut off at times but after a minute or so it will start up again... just wondering if this is a normal.. thing for this type of furnace..

However we are living in a cold climate this time of year is our coldest month.. so if it cold outside do they keep running.. it is set at 70most of the time and the house is warm... is there anything wrong with my furnace and if so what is my problemm...

Lots of things to take into account. How cold it is outside. Furnace may be undersized, so on so on. If furnace is keeping the house warm to thermostat setting, then I would say you are OK. If furnace seems to run constantly and its not keeping temp in house constant, then you may have a problem.

Can you tell me what type of thermostat you have? If it has a merucry bulb, then its time to upgrade thermostat. Get an electronic or digital thermostat. j

Please let me know about your current thermostat, send pic if possible. I will try to help, if possible.

I'm not sure at this time what kind of thermostat I have but ill look at it later today as I'm just on my way to work.. ill try and send you a picture of the thermostat... the the temperature outside for the past few weeks has been really cold usually around -28 which feels like -30 to-34 with the wind chill.. january is one of the coldest months.

Also my wife has told me that she has felt cold air coming from the vents at times.. but usually it is coming out warm..

With those kind of outside temps, your furnace may run quite a bit. As long as house is staying up to desired setting on thermostat, you are probably fine. However, I would say you need to still upgrade thermostat, or set anticipator setting on old one(if possible). Furnace should stay off for more than a minute, unless house is poorly insulated. I think a newer thermostat would help the furnace run more efficiently.

Like I said, your outside temps are extreme, so you could probably get by with existing thermostat. But replacing thermostat is a fairly cheap simple upgrade. Please let me know what you think.

I have taken some pics of the thermastat I'm asuming it is a newer one as my home is a newer home as well as my furnace is..

Let me know on how new this thermasstat is,,

Basically he's saying that your thermostat is not among the top brands, and it would be more efficient to wire nut the wires together instead of using this thermostat to control temp. Just a little sarcasism.

He is correct(forget about the wire nut, its just a joke), I would look at getting a honeywell thermostat. If you are looking for good simple thermostat, I would suggest the honeywell t87 series. You can get them for heat only, or heat and ac.

Looks like you only have a heat system with no ac(two wire system). I will try to post a pic of the honeywell. I really think you are do for a thermostat upgrade. Even if it doesn't fix your problem, it will at least eliminate the thermostat as the problem. Let me know what you think.
