Wiring a furnace thermostat to manually operate the furnace fan

I have two wires connected to my furnace thermostat. There is a place labeled G on the thermostat. Can I simply run a wire from the G terminal on my thermostat to the terminal labeled G on my furnace fan relay to operate the fan separately?
NEW HONEYWELL thermostat not responding

I replaced old thermostat w/ new Honeywell model CT87K, before installing I checked wiring. (shorting red and white wires). The furnace turn on OK. After that I installed the heat only ct87k . But now the wall furnace does not respond when I turn the dial.? Thanks for your help. C.C.
