Compressor panels too dirty to measure freon pressure??
I'm having problems with my A/C unit. A service technician came to
My house, looked at the compressor unit, and told me the panels
Were full of debris that he couldn't accurately measure the freon
Pressure. He asked to clean the panel for $89, which did not
Include the service call, another $79.

I just don't see the connection between the cleaniness of the
Panels and measuring the freon pressue. Isn't freon inside copper
Tubings? What does it have to do with the panels? Is this guy
    Trying to rip me off?

If your outside unit is full of debris - the vents obstructed and the coils dirty -it can definitely affect freon pressure. There has to be unobstructed ventilation for the compressor to function properly. The technician may still have been ripping you off - but if you don't maintain the unit and keep it clear of leaves, trash, etc. - you are providing him with the perfect alibi. Likely he was on the level - and now your unit should run more efficiently.
