    Central Heating/Cooling
    Hi,

We are thinking of converting our two family home from radiators and window AC's to central heating and cooling. This means all new ductwork as well. We have been quoted two Goodman units for each apartment.

One apartment is 1600 sqft. And the other is 1500 sqft. The house is old but pretty good insulation was put in during the renovations.

I have below questions, any help is appreciated.

1). What size of (tons?) units would be sufficient for these two units?

2). A typical setup is being sold on this website that includes

Goodman Gas Furnace Air conditioner Systems, Buy Direct from ACWholesalers.com, Free Shipping.

    One Condensing Unit. ( SSX160361A )
    One Gas Furnace. ( GMVC950905DX )
    One Evaporator Coil. ( CAPF4860D6 )
    One Thermostatic Expansion Valve. ( TX3N4 )

Is this a complete unit (other than the duct material and thermostat of course) or do I need to purchase other things to be able to complete the setup?

3). Does Goodman make really bad units?

    Thanks!

To figure the size needed correctly you will need to do or have performed a manual J on each section (apartment) you want to heat and cool. You will also need to do a manual D for correct duct sizes also.

There is no typical size for for uinits. You will only know the correct size by performing a manual J and D.

Goodman makes OK equipment BUT any equipment or any brand is only as good as the professional install. Make sure the installer really knows his or hers stuff or no brand of equipment will last as long as it should and you will be very unhappy with its performance.

Below is a general idea behind hiring a installer/contractor if you so choose to have someone do the install.
