    A/C Repair
    Good Morning,

I had my A/C repaired yesterday and this is what I was told after $871.00.

"I found ice on drain connection and had to turn on heat to melt ice from evaporator coil, but could not see evaporator coil. I found a capacitor and had to replace. I checked for leaks and they are in evaporator coil, but I did not see the coil. I had to add 6 pounds of R-22 at $40.00/pound into a 2 1/2 ton unit with 25 feet run from condenser to evaporator.

My question is, how did it make ice and freeze if capacitor was bad and compressor didn't start? How do you know coil leaks if you don't expose the coil to see it? Isn't there only about 5.8 - 7 pounds total in this system for a 2 1/2 ton unit? Where did the ice come from that needed to be melted, which I would think would be caused by poor air flow over the coil?
Can someone explain this in a way that makes sense or was I hoodwinked?
