Armstrong Ultra V Tech 80 - Can I use any type of filter in this unit?
I used a thicker filter one time and the person I got it from said it burned something out. Now I have been using the cheap filters. Question is, can I use the thicker filters on this unit?
    Thanks

You are asking a good question but sorry to say I do not have a good answer. Thicker filters can cut down the air movement going past the heat exchanger of the furnace especially when they get a bit dirty. The only true way to find out if thicker filters could cause a problem is to use a special tool to measure the air flow then compare that figure against the factory designed minimum air flow for the exact model of furnace you have. Sorry but I do not have a yes or no answer except to say that unless the test that I mentioned is performed it would be wise not to take any chances and just continue to use the cheaper filters you have been using.
