Armstrong Ultra SX90 heat exchanger rivets
I was just informed by my HVAC guy that my 10 yr old Armstrong Ultra SX90 furnace has popped a rivet on the heat exchanger. He says he is seeing this more regularly with these furnaces. He said he can replace the heat exchanger and told me to think about replacing the whole furnace because in the long run it may be cheaper than fixing all the problems. Sounds like he's trying to make some money off someone who doesn't know any better. Just wondering if this rivet problem is common on the 10 yr old Armstrong furnaces like he says?

    Thanks!

First contact Armstrong at there new name and phone number. Have your complete model number and serial number ready. You can ask them about your warranty and exactly what is covered. This will take away any thoughts of BS from the HVAC guy and you will know the facts.

I beileve Armstrong uses a pinched style heat X and does not use rivets in the heat X proper but they could be used to attach the header vestibuel area. Take some photos of the area in question and the rivet. Post them here so we can see exactly what you are talking about.

Here is the number to call.
