Altering Oil Burner Transformer wiring for continuous run
On Monday I had the oil burner service man come in and fix a problem where the oil burner kept shutting down every 10 hours or so for 2 days. He cleaned the nozzle and the system worked fine. This morning Wednesday (2 days later) we received an oil delivery and after an hour or more we had no heat. The tech is saying that sometimes the oil burners have trouble lighting the fuel when it first comes out of the truck because it's so cold ( is this true? I've never heard this before or ever had this as a problem?). The way he explains it, the transformer generates a spark that ignites the fuel. He says mine is wired to generate the spark only for a set amount of time and then go off. He rewired it so the spark stays on. Now I'm a fire freak so this has got me real nervous. He claims that this is not a fire hazard and is an acceptable method for fuel burners. I've dealt with this company for over 23 years and never had a problem but it doesn't pay to be too slack. Does anyone know if this is legit? Or where I can get information on it? The last thing I need is to have the house go boom in the middle of the night, especially with me in it! Nor do I need something else to go wrong because the transformer is wired incorrectly. :eek:

The cold oil is BS. Your burner should be constant ignition already while the burner is working so I have no idea what the service man is talking about. If it was setup for intermitent ignition it would not make a difference as to why your burner went off. The cad cell detector turns the burner off if there is a lack of flame. Did they replace the oil filter during the service? One other thing. You might have lost your prime if you ran out of oil since you had to put 300 gallon in it. If you continue to have problems call a different company.
