    Ac unit not keeping it cool in house
    I have read a few of the Q&A's and this is what I have found so far. The fan blows the and there is a pipe coming out of the outside unit that seems to have ice on it. I had the unit on all day but only noticed this evening that it wasn't cooling as we have been out. Since we have been home the temp inside has been about 85 degrees and the fan has stayed on the whole time. Any help is much appreciated.

    Are you getting any airflow at the vents? Has the filter been changed recently? One prob might be a clogged filter restricting airflow. There might even be ice in the furnace ductwork. Id take the filter out and see what happens. If the air coming in from the central has caused ice buildup, it might take bit before you get cool air.

    So does it sounds like the drum is running, like its trying to push air?

    Also, I'm not an expert, so wait for our more knowledgeable members to chime in.

    The filter is good, the drum(fan) is spinning but the air flow seemed restricted. I left the unit off and just had the fan on over night . Now the air flow is strong and cold but it has only been back on for 15 min. I'll check later to see if ice builds up again. If it does are there any ideas what it might be?

    It could be a dirty filter, dirty evaporator coil, low on refrigerant, or some of your registers closed off, anything to restrict air flow. You can insure that the registers are open and the filter is clean but you may have to call a service person to check the refrigerant charge. Good luck . Mike

    So if I understand correctly, a clogged air filter could cause the unit to freeze up. That would make sense the filter was clogged. I removed it to clean it and allowed time for thaw and now all seems fine. Thanks for your help.

    That's correct, a dirty filter can cause the ice by restricting air flow, the fastest way to de-ice is turn on furnace for 15 minutes.

    Hey, guess how I knew it might be the filter? Same thing happened to me last year. Just forgot to change it out and it did it right about now, when the summer heat had the ac running almost nonstop.

    Glad to hear all seems well now.
