2 ton heat pump, too much refrigerant?
I have a 2 ton rooftop package unit heat pump that blows warm air. I ckecked the refrigerant (r-22) with the ambient temperature being 95 deg f. The high side read 300 on the oustside of the gauge. Shouldn't it be closer to 125? I took these mesurements while it was running. Thanks.

125?? No it shouldn't.. what is the temp outside? What's the low side charge? Did you do subheat and supoercool? What's temp inside?
Are you using the right kind of gauges for r22? Are you skilled and licensed to handle refridgeant?

Outside temp is 99... low side readings are 72 in the r-22 part of the gauge... high side is 150 in the same part of the gauge... green for r-22... indoor temp is 80... I am licensed... don't have a lot of experience though

Right, only to the last 6 words,, I think you should get an experienced tech up on your rooftop before you ruin the compressor

Was trying to help you,, you need to get someone that won`t overcharge and do damage to your compressor,, its not something a person with little or no experience would want to mess up

so you highside went from being at 300 to 150? Did you let refridgerant out? Seems to me you may be licensed, but I have to agree with wrmproop on this one. Call an expirianced tech out. There is still a lot of other info needed to determine system operation. Telling us the gauge readings does not get us very far. We need to know subheat and supercooling and other variables.

I also am not sure why you snapped at wrmproop. He is very knowledgeable when it comes to these things.

He probably has a license to drive a taxi. We all post here trying to help these folks and then they have to lie to us. Sorry wmproop looks like you walked into a bad one. At least it does not happen that often. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the removal Curlyben. On with the show.
