    Medical Billing/ Coding
I am trying to become a medical biller/coder and work from my home. I am getting my associate's degree in healthcare administration right now as a starting point. I know that I need to get certified, but I do not know how I would go about doing that. How would I get my certification and is there any more preparation I need to do?

I am also going for an assocciates degree in Health Information Technology. From what I understand to get RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician), CCS(Certified Coding Specialist), CCA (Certified Coding Associate), CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist-Physician based)you would have to first make sure your school is AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) accredited because if not you may not be able to take the tests. If you become a menmber of AHIMA while you are a student your membership will only be 35 a year vs. $200.00 a year for those already in the career field. AHIMA also provides you with the requiremnts for the tests, job referral, and DICOUNTS on the tests! Website is AHIMA Home - American Health Information Management Association

Yes, you can get certified by contacting on line... ahima... close enough. You should study for at least 6 months before you set for the exam. Anyway this website will tell you the cost, and what you need to do.
