You don't actually donate plasma, you donate blood as per the ususl methods. A lab would then separate the plasma.

This will provide you with some good information
    Donating Plasma

Similar to giving blood, you get an IV placed in both arms... the link above will explain it better than I can.

My father-in-law does it several times a year with no complications. He actually enjoys the time being spent reading a book... a along knowing he's helping his fellow man. :)

NeedKarma is incorrect. They take your blood through one arm per donation, which is hooked up to a centrifuge machine that separates the liquid plasma from the red blood cells. The plasma is collected in a bottle and the red blood cells are returned to the donor, so it is NOT like giving blood, it is just giving the liquid portion of the blood. Plasma is easily replaced by your body through increased fluid input; drinking more water (NOT soda, coffee or tea which can be diuretics). It is perfectly safe to give twice within a seven day period providing your iron and protein levels are within normal limits and you don't have certain types of abnormal conditions. As for barry_hayes, I think his problem is related to his age, not giving plasma. Men in their mid-forties often start to experience ED for a variety of reasons; if greater fluid input doesn't help, a Dr. visit would be in order. BTW, I've given plasma twice a week for over a year with absolutely no detrimental effects (other than small puncture sites on my arms where they insert the needle).
