    Can we combine sata and pata drives in a single machine?

    As long as you have a power supply that can support both, and you have SATA cables *and* IDE cables to spare, and a motherboard that has ports for both, then yes.

    There are also converters that can be purchased that can connect to the drive and corresponding plug on board
