    Remove hair dye
My hair is naturally brown, but I've been dying it black for a long time. Well now I'm trying to go light brown but the hair dye I use is permanent and I'm not sure how to get the color out without having to go to a beauty salon.. I tried some over the counter hair dye removers but they don't really work... Does anybody know how to do it?

Firstly I am not a hairdresser! But I recently dyed my hair to dark and am in a similar boat so I can tell you what I was told... first dandruff shampoo is a stripper put it on your damp (not wet) hair and leave for 1/2 hour... rinse.. I did this 3 times and a lot came out... condition DEEPLY... if this does not lighten things there is only 2 options that I know of... 1/ have your hair professionally stripped (expensive and damaging) You should not do it at home because it is almost impossible to control the lightening evenly... or secondly (and what was recommended to me by hairdresser/ cosmetic counter lady/ and hair color hotline) streak it a lighter color... so the stripping is lessened and therefore less damaging... so you could do medium brown streaks through the black to blend the black with the brown regrowth that comes in naturally... this you may be able to do at home with a cap and streaking kit... just when you rince don't take off the cap... dye the light hair a color close to your natural color... JUst a suggestion

My daughter uses a product called Whitelitening (not sure of spelling) she buys it at a local beauty supply shop. It comes in a black box with silver writing (pretty sure it is silver, only saw box once). She uses it to lighten her hair (naturally brown , died black) so she can put other colors in, red, purple, blue. I know it lightens really well, but don't know if how much it takes out can be regulated well. Might be worth a look for you.
