I'm 23 also and had this issue a while back I freaked out and went to my doctor and he attributed it to stress (for me anyways) I don't know if this helps but could be the cause??

Thunder-Rose, I cannot determine what's causing your hair loss over the Internet. There's several factors that can cause the hair to shed or fall out, such as birth control pills, iron deficiency, insufficient protein, ringworm and chemicals in hair care products. I recommend that you consult a doctor. The doctor will ask you some questions about your diet, medicines you're taking and if you've had a recent illness. He/she will also examine your scalp to look for other causes of hair loss and prescribe the proper treatment.

Have you been dieting? Sometimes when you decide to go on a diet, or lose weight too quickly, you can have problems with thinning hair. I was losing hair for a while because I cut my caloric intake dramatically in order to lose weight. Always remember that if you go on a diet, or just stop eating as much as you should be, or even just to stay healthy... take your daily multivitamin. I especially like the ones made for women. Not only did it help with my hair thinning problem, but my hair is getting longer and my nails are growing thicker and faster than ever before. I tried taking vitamins before and was just not religious about it, but when my hair loss pushed me to make it a routine habit, I realized how beneficial it is.;)
