How to achieve chunky hair texture
When asking for 'texturizing' at the salon, I usually end up with something that is too 'softly' textured. I know there are different types of texturizing shears. How do I get a stylist to make the texture 'chunky'? I am usually never satisfied with the texture. Is this something I could do at home? If so, how many 'teeth' should be in the scissors? I have a lot of hair and it is short. Thank you.

Shears are used to lighten or thin the thickness of hair by texturizing it. If you want the texture to look chunky, you should go to the salon and tell them that you want chunky textures and they will create that look for you.

Do not use shears to create chunky hair texture. It will create a lot of sharp hair ends that make it look 'softly'. Your hair should be cut in straight chunk of layers by using the normal scissors. Your hair should be very straight to see the chunky hair ends. You can even get some chunky highlights. Use a dry look styling product such as clay or wax to style your hair and NOT the wet look styling products.
