Going from black to light brown
I dyed my hair black about 3 months ago, it's faded now and I also have light brown roots showing. I want to dye my hair light brown, close to my natural color, but I want to use a box dye. I haven't used a box dye in years and I'm scared of trying to dye my hair from almost black to light brown using a box dye, I don't think it will work. Does anyone know if this will work or not? My main concern is that it won't change into the right color and also that the light brown will fade really fast and my hair will look weird.

    Hello Bonita,

First off, color doesn't lift color. In other words, the only thing that will take to the color are your roots (regrowth).

Second, box color is not good for your hair, it has metallic salts in it and that's damaging.

The only way you can get rid of the color is to either strip it or bleach it. I would strip it over bleaching. Less damage.

If I were you, I would go to a salon to have it professionaly done.

If you can't afford it, then you can go to a beauty supply store and purchase the stripper. I would get Eliminate. Only ut it on your color, not your roots. Then that way you can color it back to your shade. Use professional color.

After that I would use a reconstructor. You can use Biolage or K-pak. It will help repair your hair.

I would suggest going into a salon for a consultation.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the help.

Is stripping the hair damaging? Because my hair is already pretty damaged and if it's really bad for the hair then I'll just have to let it grow out as much as I can before I get this done. This sucks, I wish I had thought of this before I dyed my hair black lol.

Yes, it can be damaging. You could always go to a salon and just have a stylist look and feel your hair. It's hard for me to guess what kind of condition your hair is, considering I can't see nor feel the texture and condition it's in. You, however, know your hair the best, and if you think that it's pretty damaged, then I would wait for a while before doing anything to it. I would also use a reconstructor as of now to help repair your hair.
