Dyeing hair from reddish brown to blonde

About 4 month's ago I dyed my hair from Platinum Blonde to a redish brown but I want to go back to Blonde for the summer.. Been reading on the interenet that if you bleach your hair & then dye it an Ash blonde that is cancels out the orange/yellow tones! Would just like to know if anyone has done this & how it turned out? Also how long should I leave it after bleaching before I put the Ash Blonde dye on?
