    Brown Hair Dye Turned Black
    I Dyed My Teenage Daughters Hair Last Night. It Was Supposed To Be Dark Brown. Some Is Dark Brown, But Most Of It Looks Black. What Can I Do To Lighten It. She Left For School In Tears This Morning. She Thinks It Looks Gothic. Please Help.

    If you want to make your daughter's hair a few shades lighter, you can use your selected color and mix with a 30 volume peroxide developer. You will find volume developers and hair coloring products separate at a beauty supply store.

    HOW MUCH DO I USE, HOW LONG DO I KEEP IT ON, AND AT WHAT RATIO DO I MIX IT?

    They have bottled developers and hair coloring products at the beauty supply stores. You only need to use a half-bottle of developer with your desired color. Take the hair color and pour it into the 30 volume developer bottle and shake it until it's blended, and then apply it evenly to the hair. Leave the color mixture on for 35-45 minutes then rinse it out. Use a shampoo and conditioner afterwards.

    I just did this myself. I am a hairdresser and I made the mistake of putting color on while VERY preoccupied! It was on a little long, and sure enough, the root area looked great and 3/4 of the hair shaft was black! All I did, was mix 3/4 cup of 40 volume developer and 1/4 cup shampoo together, put that all over the hair for about 30 minutes. Hopefully this will pull out the black leaving a nice brown color. At least that's what it did for me! You wouldn't want to do this if there is any red in the black though, OK?
