BROWN hair dye came out RED!
I have just dyed my hair yesterday using clairol natural instincts hair dye (last through28 shamppos). I wanted to go from a light brown hair to a little darker because my roots were coming in dark, but instead, my hair came out a dark red! I really hate it but I'm not sure of what to do. I don't know if I should dye it lighter because I'm thinking it might turn a lighter red and I'm not sure if I should use prell shampoo either because I don't want to get a lighter red that way either. I really don't want to go to school like this and I need something that well be not so expensive and if possible, something that won't damage or make my hair fall out. PLEASE HELP!!

Did the box, by any chance, say "ash brown" anywhere? If it did, the "ash" part always brings out red tints.

No, it didn't at all. It said a medium golden brown. I am so mad. What do you think that I should do about it? Like what kind of dye or should I prell it, or will that make it lighter?

It may be the "Golden' in the brown that pulled out the red. Look at the side of the package where it tells you the ingredients, and it will tell you whether there is any trace of red dye in it.

Sometimes when I dye my hair it looks weird (to me) the first day or so, but then it looks pretty good once I get used to it.

If you don't like it, then just re-dye it.

Yeah I Think that it was the golden. I;m going to wait a week and then if it still looks bad, I'll re-dye it. Do you know what type of dye I should and shouldn't use? Should I go lighter or darker and use an "ash" brown or blonde or something like that?

If you don't want the red, don't use "golden" or "ash." If your hair was light brown, then go with Medium Brown or something along those lines.

My advice: go to a professional and have them give you the color you want. A box color rarely works and coloring over bad color makes it worse. If you insist on using box hair color, try the new Brass Free (or similar name... not sure to be exact) from one of the major suppliers. You can get it at the supermarket, Walgreens, etc. Use the shade that most closely matches your color. Don't use the color you want your hair to be. Good luck.
