Greetings-
For aesthetics and ease of manufacturing, limestone may be a good option, but, as any good geologist knows, limestone does weather significantly over the years. If there are inscriptions on the monument, it is very possibly that 30-50 years later the inscriptions may be so weathered that they may become difficult to decipher. Iron may also leach out of the limestone causing unsightly red stains with white rinds around the outside. In some cases, this may desirable so I would have to say that it really depends on the application.
