    Troubleshooting my Sprinkler controller
Recently the Richdel 404 controller of my sprinkler system ceased to work.
I don't know much, but checked for 24V supply and found none. I then looked in the box next to the controller and found an electrical block with two "hot" 120V inputs (still hot) and two (I assume) 120V outputs , (not live) as well as two cables marked 24V that go to the controller
What is this box? What checks should I make, and what else should I look for to fix my problem?
Are there webpages relating to this sort of problem?
    Newbie sprinkler system owner.

I don't understand the dead 120v outputs. Where do they go? Do the cables marked 24 volts have power? If not, the transformers are likely bad. They are a common item in home heating systems and also available at Radio Shack and other electronic stores. Before replacing a burned out transformer, check the circuits it feeds for shorts, etc. or the new transformer may go up in smoke too.

As for a web site, maybe Richdel.

    Thnaks for the reply,
The two 120v "outputs" go back to the breaker panel.
It makes sense that this is a transformer, is it a switch/solenoid also?

    More information
I had a better chance to look at the system and do a little research.
The box and electrical gear is a K-Rain Pump Start Relay.. hence the 24V [input] cables.
Okay since my logic is kicking in a little, if there's no power to the 24v cables, then the coil won't energise and the pump won't start.
Then: if there's no power to them, the problem lies in the controller.
I found power to the controller-- 120v, but still no control voltage out when I cycle the rotating zone control dial.
The reset breaker appears to have no affect on the state of things

Faulty control unit, or is there a fuse or circuit breaker that I've missed?

    Hoping this assists
    Tink.

If you can open the controller up, you might check to see if the 24v transformer is getting 120 on the primary. If so, and no 24v, the transformer is dead. Cheaper than a whole new controller. Many things are not meant to be opened up and fixed.

The transformer is fine, but there's a little signal light as part of the circuit, it's blown out and breaking the circuit.
Turns out most of the toubleshooting is immaterial now (apart from looking for short circuits), as my wife has wanted a new controller for a lot longer than we've been married (only two weeks)
Any suggestions on appropriate controllers welcome
Thank you for the help, will postinfo on the reinstallation.
