    Which red maple tree?
PLease help me decide which red maple tree to plant. I live in Greensboro, NC and the site is in full sun with somewhat clay soil. I am looking for a beautiful fiery red tree with a good shape. I am confused about the cultivars "October Glory", Autumn Flame, or Red Sunset. The pictures I have seen of the "Red Maple" (no cultivar named) seem to be what I am searching for... but have been told to stick with a cultivar. Please help... and thank you!

Hi. I'm definitely not a tree expert but we have three mature red maples on our property that are about 80' tall and I would estimate 50 years old. Blood red and fiery red in fall. Absolutely beautiful. The arborist who pruned them for us said they we Acer rubrum L. Red Maple. They flower and fruit in spring and may live to 100 years! Don't know much other than that but try to find an arborist to tell you the best species for your area. Plant them. You won't be sorry. Good Luck.
