Ornamental Cherry tree growing on one side only
I have an ornamental cherry tree that I purchased about 2 years ago and planted. When I got it I could see that one side of the main trunk didn't have any branches but figured it would fill out. Now, 2 years later, it's about 8 feet tall and still no growth on the one side.

    Any ideas?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that's a problem you cannot solve. It's either disease or bad grafting if it's an ornamental that was grown with grafting.

Time to get that thing out of there before it gets any bigger and plant another.

In my experience a year is the common warrantee - so be sure to
    1. check the warrantee on plants/trees you buy, and
    2. get it replaced if you notice odd growth like that in the warrantee period.

Thanks for the info. I kind of figured that was the case but had gotten lots of free advice that it would eventually sprout limbs on that side so I let it go. Not a big loss, I think I paid $10 for it on close-out at Walmart. I guess I wasted 2 years though...

Best to not mess around with cheap stuff for something as permanent as a trell. Shop at a plant store to replace it.

Most ornamental Cherry's around here are just $80-$150 for a starter size... double that for one that's been grown for 1-3 years... with a 1 year warrantee.

Get the tree mid-summer for maximum growth time before the warrantee expires.

    Good luck with it!

It's a shame because it looks so great right now with full bloom... well, 3/4 of it looks great ;-)
